What is an EBD?
Exchange-Based Diversion (EBD) is a process where a service number is converted into a virtual number at the carrier level. This removes all associated complexities from the number — such as line hunts, Telstra DOT features, or other legacy configurations — allowing the number to be diverted cleanly at the exchange.
Once applied, the number can be ported as a Category A (simple) port.
Prerequisites
Before requesting an EBD, the following conditions must be met:
- DIDs must be active and portable.
- The numbers must not be in an active porting process.
- Temporary DIDs (Temp DIDs) must be available for diversion.
How many Temp DIDs are required?
- If routing does not matter:
- Only one Temp DID is required to divert all numbers.
- If each DID must be routed individually during the EBD period:
- You must allocate Temp DIDs equal to the number of porting DIDs.
- Example: If you are porting 3 numbers, you will need 3 Temp DIDs.
EBD Request Process (Telstra)
- The account holder contacts Telstra and requests to be connected with the Telstra LNP (Local Number Provisioning) team to discuss porting their numbers out.
- The account holder must confirm the numbers are active and portable.
- If they are not active, request that Telstra reactivate the numbers and make them portable.
- The account holder requests EBD (Post-Paid) and provides the required Temp DIDs for exchange-level diversion.
- Note: EBD must be Post-Paid for the numbers to remain portable.
- Telstra applies the EBD. This usually takes 1–3 business days.
- Important: Once applied, all existing call forwards will be removed.
- After the EBD has taken effect, you can request Aatrox Communications to submit the DIDs in a PAF as a Category A port.
- Standard CAT A porting timeframe: 6–10 business days from acceptance.
